Water Features – What To Do With A Small Space
It’s easy to feel left out if you don’t have a large, sprawling garden. After all, the pictures in the gardening magazines are full of pictures of larger gardens. A great solution is to install small water features. That way you get the best of what’s displayed in the magazines at the fraction of the cost and it will fit in the area you have for it.
Actually, you might want to use small water features even if you do have a large yard. It will save you a lot of money, and you can still add creative dimensions to your garden.
Installing large water features can also take a large chunk of time to do. If you can’t dedicate weekend after weekend on such a large project you might want to look into this option as well. When you use small containers you can have one up and running in no time. If you do want something more elaborate you can just add more containers when you have time to do it.
If you’ve decided this is the step for you, it’s time to shop for your containers! You might even have some in your home already that are appropriate. Jugs, barrels, and tubs tend to work well as long as they are waterproof.
You can also find these small water features in the home garden stores. They will be a little bit more expensive than building them on their own, but they are worth the cost if you’re looking to save time. Online shopping is another option if you need to find something specific.
No matter which route you choose you have to be sure the container will be waterproof and weatherproof. There is nothing worse that getting your water feature up and running over to have it knocked over or ruined by the weather. Make sure your container is sturdy and will stand the test of time outdoors.
If you’d like to have a small pond as your water feature you will need to make plans to dig a hole for the container. This can look very nice when you plant flowers around the base. If it is large enough you can even put pet fish in it, but those are usually reserved for the larger fixtures.
Even though below ground fixtures are a good option, many of these small containers are kept above ground. You can buy an attachment that will create a miniature water fountain for these above ground beauties! They are neat when they are displayed on a deck or somewhere where people can see and appreciate them.
Small spaces call for small water features. Luckily, there are many options open to you!
